How the Rankings Work

The National Rankings are open to all members of Archery GB. An archer’s ranking is the points from their best 5 world record status events of the season, and one result is enough to be ranked.

Who is ranked

Master Bowman awards

Master Bowman, Grand Master Bowman and Elite Master Bowman need 36 dozen arrows of prestige rounds, shot at world or UK record status events, each at or over the award’s score. A WA 720 is 6 dozen and a WA 1440 is 12. A double 720 is two rounds, and each has to make the score on its own.

These are an adult’s scores. An over-50, under-21 or younger archer has lower scores to make: an over-50 or under-21 man needs 556 on a recurve WA 720 for Master Bowman, where an adult needs 597. An archer’s age group is shown on their page where it is known.

Classifications and handicaps

Below the Master Bowman tier are Bowman 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class, which need 18 dozen arrows at the class’s score, and Archer 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class, which need 12 dozen. An archer’s page shows the class their record status scores this season support, and the best class each score is good enough for. Scores from club target days count for these classes too, and aren’t shown here.

Every score has a handicap: the lower the handicap, the better the score, whatever the round. An archer’s handicap is the average of their first three rounds’ handicaps. After that, each round better than their handicap moves it halfway to that round’s. Handicaps are rounded down.

Junior rankings

A junior’s ranking is their three best handicaps of the season added together, from rounds shot at world or UK record status events between 1 March and 5 October. A lower total is better. A double round is two single rounds, and each age group has rounds too short to count for it.
